We're Going Places

Welcome Webelos!

About Us

Boy Scouts is your next step along your Scouting journey. Troop 839 is boy-led, which means that the Scouts are responsible for their schedules and events. The adults in the Troop offer guidance and support as the Scouts carry out their activities.

Troop 839 meets at First Presbyterian Church of Kingwood almost every Monday night from mid-August through early-June. You are welcome to attend a Troop 839 meeting anytime. Please contact the Scoutmaster using the email address on the Contact Us page to let us know you are coming. We'll introduce you to the Senior Patrol Leader and arrange a Q&A session with the parents.

Troop 839 camps one weekend a month during the school year. We go to a variety of places and do many cool things. We also attend a week-long resident Summer Camp each year. When you get older, you will be eligible to participate on many different high adventure campouts as well. If you are interested in what we do, you can look at the pictures and our calendar listed on this website.

The Troop has an active Advancement program. New Scouts advance in rank towards First Class with the help of Troop Guides (Scouts that have already achieved First Class or higher). Monthly Merit Badge classes and an active campout program help Scouts progress through all ranks up to Eagle Scout. To date, over 150 Scouts in Troop 839 have earned the rank of Eagle.

At a Troop Meeting in late March, we will formally recognize all of our joining Scouts with an Investiture Ceremony. New Patrols will be formed and Troop Guides (Scout mentors) will be assigned. On the following weekend, all new Scouts are highly encouraged to attend an Orientation Campout dedicated just for them. On this overnighter, you will be instructed on basic camping skills. Prior to campout departure, everyone will receive classroom training on Troop organization, teaching methods, and safety rules. Parents are also encouraged to attend the overnighter, but will be camping as an 'adult patrol'.

If you wish to contact someone to learn more about Troop 839, please e-mail us using the address on the Contact Us page.
